The weeks seem to be much longer. I feel like I haven’t yet done any work. Even though I have been keeping busy.
I am trying to do a gallery every weekend, so they don’t feel so long and I don’t despair! This week because the lessons are not in full, I have done two.
Today, I went to the Gallerie dell’Accademia, without actually knowing what to expect.
It was interesting to have a look at the place and the paintings. If well they don’t full fill me, I can appreciate the fact that they are so old and yet still exist and are preserved in immaculate condition. There were about 500 versions of the Madonna col Bambino (Virgin Mary and baby).
The paintings themselves are very flamboyant! The catholic church and their display of wealth (but yet the irony of it all)
All the painting up to a certain point were very golden, specially those portraying church related themes. And I mean: GOLD!
About them I like, as I said the fact that these painting still exist. Dating to the 1100’s. I would like to know all the things the paintings have seen and lived through. Wars, natural disasters and social movements.
The Gallery was really interesting. The ceilings, floors and windows were my favourite part.
So intricate and elaborate.
I might go back to the gallery at some point and take photos of all the versions of the Madonna col Bambino.
The Peggy Guggenheim still remains my favourite.
