Yesterday we went to Murano. I had been there last Sunday to have a look around but it was too late. Really I was planning to go earlier, but once again I got lost!!
Second time around I knew exactly where to go to get the boat.
The island itself isn’t great, I thought. Well, it is very small and since Murano is famous for glass blowing, most on the island are shops that sell souvenirs. The shops are very much directed to tourists. Most of the things in most of the shops are a lot of rubbish. Of course, there are some really impressive that sell beautiful pieces. Some useful (such as home stuff) and others not as much.
Sadly, I wasn’t allowed to take photos in the shops.
IL MUSEO DEL VETRO
The museum was very interesting. We paid 7.50 euros to get in. Thought it was a lot.
The selection of glass pieces they had was really good. Because the pieces were arranged in chronological order, you could see the difference between the techniques used and what was wanted of the glass at the time.
I thought the museum needed better organization. I mean, the lighting in most of the rooms was very low and the way the items were displayed (in one large cabinet) made it very difficult to take good photos of the pieces.
I think my favorite thing from the museum was the video they had on by the entrance. It was about the history, the processes and the different techniques used in glass work.
