So, it has been a while since my last post. The start of this year was difficult.
We came back in September and started working on our first projects. SEED projects through which we looked at a quick project for the day and decide what one of the projects we would like to further develop. I enjoyed the first project of designing a deck chair the most. I have been thinking that furniture design would be something that I might like to look at as a graduate.
At the same time, we started working on a parallel project, BAMS (medal design). Getting into this project was very difficult. To be honest, I didnt get into the project until two weeks before the formative assessment, so I felt like I didnt really have a lot to show for it.
I started by looking at the concepts of medals. Why are they given now, why were they given in the past? What has changed?
By looking at these things and discovering, I started thinking about the concept of why a medal is given rather than the medal itself. Its a celebration, a reward for an act that is considered brave or admirable.
I thought I would like to give a recognition for people for something as simple as recycling. I like the concept of recycling and re-using materials.
I looked at using Frits for glazes as they give a glassy finish
However, after putting a lot of thought into it (this is when my brain started running) I decided to actually work with recycled materials. I thought making it look recycled without it actually been was not the best move.
Here are some photos of my work so far.
Here are also some things I was looking at when I started.
