On the first term of Constellation, we all had a small tester of the possible option for study on the terms to come. I was instantly attracted to the Sonic Arts. I enjoy music and sounds in general although I had never looked at it in an academic way.
So when the time came, I chose the option of Sonic Arts. Although it was not my first choise, I was very glad with it because I have learned a lot and my work in Constellation and my work for the city project relate to each other. One in an academic way and the other in a practical artistic way.
The lessons were very interesting and I benefited a lot from being in the group, since it was an unknown concept for me. Looking ar the artists and concepts in the lesson, I began to research into it on my own time. That was how I came to learn about Cymatics, which is the scientific study of sound waves made visible. I also came to find a lot of information on neurological reseach wich deals with sound and human perception.
So I decided to base my essay on it. Including a study on Christine Sun Kim who is an artist who was born deaf. If well she does not relate to Cymatics, in definition, she experiments with ways of making sound visible.
I enjoyed very much doing research and reading about a subject. I discovered many interesting people and concepts which I will continue to include in further work. I have also been inspired by the things I have learned. I have been working on my own way of seeing sound, which can be seen in my other posts.
Although the information on Cymatics was not easily available, the ones that I did find were very useful.
The problem comes when I have to sit down, put my thoughts in other and write coherently. I enjoy writing, but doing so on a deadline and in an academic way is something else. It took me a very long time to begin my easy and I did not finish it until a few days before the deadline. I am not sure whether it is because I have not written essays in a while or because English is not my first language.
For future essays I will really like to work on my motivation. Leaving the essay for the last week was not what I had planned.
The essay has been submitted, so I can only wait for the next one and keep in mind what has happened andkeep working on it.
